Visit to Science Museum in June 2014

The City Camp children and I really enjoyed this experience. The exhibits were interesting and the children especially liked being able to try everything - the interactive attractions were great. The next day I asked the children what they had liked best - the unanimous answer was the ultra-violet light making green patterns on the special paper - very popular! As a non-Russian speaker, it was still enjoyable and informative for me as many of the experiments were visual and needed little explanation, although the guide seemed very informative. Definitely a worthwhile trip.

    Our Troitsk experience in 2013-2014

Julian and I have really enjoyed our time here. There are many good things about being based in Troitsk, but also some negatives - prospective teachers should be aware of these factors: Positives: Working in the same school - and often the same classroom - is great. You get to know the staff and students and their families, and really feel a part of the school. Walking to work is a real benefit too. Troitsk is a nice, safe town and living close to the forest is lovely. If teachers are interested in learning Russian, the school can help arrange language exchange partnerships. Troitsk is a small town, so you really have a 'community' experience. After a few months, every time you leave the flat you will see people you know to say hello to. People in our block of flats soon knew who we were, and everyone was friendly. The students in Troitsk are generally motivated and appreciative. The management, administration and other teachers are also very supportive and have occasional social activities, which were good fun. Negatives: It is difficult to access a lot of the staff development seminars for teachers in the morning; Russian lessons offered in central Moscow by BKC - it can take 1,5 - 2 hours to get into Moscow via bus then Metro. Some single teachers might feel a bit isolated in Troitsk, as the majority of other BKC teachers are based in the city - good if you want immersion into Russian community, but bad if you want ex-pat friends and a social life with other teachers. Overall, we were pleased to have been placed in Troitsk, and will have very fond memories of working and living here!
